Open firewall port
- NNTP uses port 119. Open the port in your firewall.
Run kwooty
- Run from the menu:
- K-menu -> Internet -> Kwooty
- Choose your usenet host:
- Kwooty -> Settings -> Configure Kwoooty... -> Connection -> Master:Host: nntp.myusenentserver.org
As an example of servers, see this list or this one.
Browse newsgroups
Kwooty does not allow newsgroup browsing. For this you should have another client, such as Mozilla Thunderbird. You can set up Thunderbird with an account that uses the same server. Subscribe to and browse your chosen newsgroups in Thunderbird, then select the file(s) to retrieve with Kwooty.
If you are looking for a special file, there are search engines for Usenet:
When the file you wish to obtain is located, create the .nzb file and start the download. Kwooty is automatically associated with .nzb files.
Please do not search for content that is illegal to download in your area.
